LOONA: K-pop Discography Deep Dives (Part TWO)

Here’s a reminder of my credentials: LOONA first appeared on my radar thanks to my Orbit friend, who showed me Paint The Town a few years ago, and while I didn’t know what to think of it the first time, it grew on me, and it’s joined my regular workout playlist. I became a fan myself only a few months before they disbanded, due to their great performances on Queendom, and I joined the boycott…

do you know how the girls split into artms and loosemble? did they get to pick one? I didn’t read about the process anywhere but it seems very evenly divided

It's interesting right?

Aside from Chuu, Heejin & Odd Eye Circle members were the first to get to "pick" where to go. However, they've opened up to say that at the time, no company would have them and Modhaus was the only company that would take them, which is why they ended up there.

Next, lawsuit loss line (Hyunjin, Haseul, Yeojin, Vivi, Yves, Gowon, Hyeju) also had limited freedom as to where to go, however, Hyunjin managed to talk an ex-BBC staff into starting(?) a company - CTD - to house the girls. It's unclear why the loossemble members + Yves didn't want to go to modhaus but Jaden made it clear he was hoping to recruit the other members but failed in doing this.

Haseul didn't go with CTD because yolo I guess idk the choice is hers

Yves decided to go with neither CTD nor Modhaus but is still bffs with CTD staff and uses their rehearsal space all the time (I don't think paix per mil has a dance studio?) so that's interesting.

But yeah, the even split seems to be coincidence. Nobody in lawsuit loss line ever explained why they refused to join modhaus but you can speculate lol, though oec+heejin kind of made it clear that literally nobody else but Jaden would take them. Weird

3. 3 films you could watch for the rest of your life and not get bored of?

oughhh ok ok ok. i have four 😭 my top two are mamma mia!: the movie & now you see me & then pitch perfect & legally blonde trade off for the third top three spot (<- guy who loved comedies & chick flicks)

30. what’s one thing that never fails to make you happy/happier?

talking to my bestie, the sun on my face, seeing a ladybug, a nice chai tea, complimenting a strangers shirt or smth & them telling me where they got it-- i love the little things :)

28. do you collect anything?

i do!! i used to collect glass soda bottles & i like kind of still do in theory but much slower now than i used to & i collect loona (kpop group) albums! (you have unlocked an unskippable cutscene but ill put the infodump below the cut lol)

ok so first heres the loona collection bc im proud of it >:)

so i only have a few of their bbc era things (thats first six things you see) because the fandom is boycotting so i have to get them secondhand :( but! even tho ive misplaced strawberry rush, i have everything not being boycotted except loosemble's self-titled first album!

basically during bbc era loona were a 12-membered kpop girlgroup who debuted one at a time & then in smalled subunits (like a group within a group), so i have love&live, the loona 1/3 debut (loona 1/3 is heejin, hyunjin, haseul, and vivi), choerry's solo debut (i have the choerry & jinsoul version but it is choerrys solo lol), chuu's solo, and gowon's solo (also the version with chuu but still her solo)!

from loona's ot12 era i have # (their third release), not friends (technically a subunit called loona x consisting of heejin, kim lip, jinsoul, and yves, but its after they all debuted together), and flip that, their last release as twelve before they all sued their management & the boycott started.

from the post-bbc era, i have everything but loosemble's debut. so there's howl, chuu's first solo comeback; version up, odd eye circle's first comeback (odd eye circle were a pre-debut subunit consisting of kim lip, jinsoul, and choerry); K, heejin's first solo comeback, one of a kind, loosemble's first comeback (loosemble are a new unit that formed under different management consisting of loona members hyunjin, yeojin, vivi, gowon, and hyeju-- they'd previously debuted with loosemble, their self-titled album, but i dont have it sadly); DALL (devine all love & live), ARTMS's debut (artms are another new unit under new management consisting of heejin, haseul, kim lip, jinsoul, and choerry); loop, yves's first solo comeback; strawberry rush (not pictured), chuu's second solo comeback; and TTYL, loosemble's second comeback.

is there any rumor netizens made up abt u or ur group that actually made u laugh out loud? is there a rumor that genuinely offended u? he glances up at the screen again, reading the question. “hmm, a funny rumor? maybe not like super funny but one that made me laugh a little was that people assume we’re not close with the loosemble and artms girls, especially after we all left bbc. we were always very close with them, they’re like our big sisters really, they took a lot of care of us, they looked out a lot.”

“um one that offended me? maybe that dongminnie (leo) was getting bullied by us? i know that people like to make things up just to do it….but i guess it made me really like insecure about what kind of leader i was that people would think that our maknae was being bullied. but the other members helped me feel better about it.”

do u like the music and concept that ur group is pursuing? if not, what would u change it to if u could? “i think considering that we make the music…most of the group likes the music and concept…i hope?” he trails off, getting distracted by a harder part of the lego set. “i think our eclipse concept is really like fun because we can do bright concepts for the solar eclipses and darker concepts of the lunar eclipses and that’s really fun and its easier to like…stay um what’s the word…engaged? yeah engaged, it’s easier for us to not get bored because the concept is so versatile.”

Loosemble one of a kind album review☆

1. Intro (A butterfly's signal) 🦋

4/10

It was cute. It's just a revamp version of searching for their friends. The train sound reminds me of flip that.

2. Girls night 🌙

9/10

It's my favorite song of the album. It's great with keeping up with the fast pace. It doesn't let up until the bridge. My complaints to why it's not a 10/10 was the "nanananna" and some parts needed more vocal stacks or vocal layering. It felt flat at some parts. They are still learning on how to a make song so I won't critize too much, it was good for a comeback and it was a song hyeju wrote. She is still trying to learn her style I bet.

3. Moonlight 🌕

7/10

I never doubted yeojin. My favorite song of their first album was colouring. I loved her parts of the songs. It was a great song after girls' night to slow down the pace. Again, the part where their vocals were stripped, it fell flat and sounded like there were mixing problems. It needed something else to make it full.

4. Boomerang ��

6/10

I didn't think I would like this song, mind you i don't like so what, hide&seek and oops. But it wasn't bad from what I heard from the highlight medley. I'm just bored of hearing these instrumentals being used, the hard base that carries the song. Yeojins sassy verse at 0:26 sold me and hyunjins vocals. Its kind of like baddie from Ive as well. But it's a fun song.

5. He said I said 💖

4/10

It's an okay song. After boomerang the album fell flat to me... it's not my type of song. I tried to like it but felt nothing in the first half of the song. The album does that, though the end of the song is where it gets a bit better. Maybe the high notes that hyunjin does that wins me over or the added vocals.

6. Truman show 💌

4/10

Again, it's not my type of song and this is just a slower version of he said I said. But more of an Ost soundtrack. Or a Disney soundtrack 🫤. It's alright, was hoping a faster upbeat song since girls night was the title track. I don't like the vibe too since it's trying to be emotional but their emotions in their voice are not connecting to the lyrics..

7. Starlight 🍓

5/10

This is just a mixture of he said I said and Truman show. The guitar, the cachy repeated words, and sentimental feelings mixed into one song. I was hoping they would mix things up but have the same sort of songs like girls night or moonlight but slowed down and the end didn't match with the three beginning songs...I don't mind these songs but I didn't like pale blue dot, universe, day by day and playback. They all have the same vibe to me and it's slow and boring. The vocals don't have the emotions they should have for a sentimental song. Like chuu's howl and wendy's when this rain stops is a good example of sentimental or heartfelt songs that show case good emotions. Also I'm not saying it didn't it needed more of it. Again it was falling short. Only part I like was the "every now and then yeah"

This is how I felt about the album it would be like if loosembles first comeback had a repackage and if you play day by day and reverse one of a kind album songs it would loop pretty good, kind of like loona's butterfly album repackaged. I'll give it a solid 6/10 overall. Boomerang should be showcased, I think, cause it's the only other song that sounds like a title track. But we know it won't happen. Other than that I hope they do hip-hop next like what hyeju wanted...or like the fx rum pum pum pum ☆
